Unfortunately too many practices fail to recognize the power that technology have when it comes to interacting with patients. Technology has the ability to improve the way staff communicate with patients and enhance the patient experience that can go far beyond the visit itself. Having a good system can help when keeping patients aware of upcoming doctor visits or follow up and even filling prescriptions. For example the system we be prompted to give a patient a phone call or even a text message that can remind them of their appointment. The most important part of using technology in a hospital setting would be to keep patient information, medical history, emergency contacts, and any other important information that staff and physicians should know. Some systems allow patients and their doctors to communicate with each other without even going to the office if it is some that’s minor and can be taken care of without a visit or copay. It can also allow the patient to have access to a portion of their records and be able see test results online and even make appointments. This is a good way to let patients monitor their health. A negative perception that can be a contributing factor would be the insufficient amount of financial resources and this can be considered a big impediment to implementation. A major concern that physicians are concerned with is that of which the system can be poorly designed, and also having a computerized entry can lead to medication errors that can ultimately lead to medical malpractice. Some other concerns would be that since it is so easy to copy and paste information it will allow staff to be lazy and not do a complete medical history and this can lead to inaccurate conditions the patient have.
