Communication is extremely important part of life but when it comes to leadership and management communication is one of the largest tools you possess. Communication is once one the most “essential skills for far more than presentation to the executive team and board. Effective communication skills are central to sharing and advocating for personal and organizational integrity.” (In Filerman, In Mills, In Schyve, Shortell, & Acuff, 2014, p. 290)
For both communication and relationship management knowledge you have a better “understanding to identify the stakeholder needs and expectations.” (In Filerman, In Mills, In Schyve, Shortell, & Acuff, 2014, p. 79) With being able to communicate and being able to identify the stakeholders you are able to make more good business decisions or set good goals by using the stakeholder theory which is, “the theory that the goal of any organization and its management it, or should be, the flourishing of the organization and all of the individuals or groups that affect or are affected by the organization.” (In Filerman, In Mills, In Schyve, Shortell, & Acuff, 2014, p. 83) Leadership The role of leadership as an executive leader in the healthcare is to set guidelines, educate employees to make ethical decisions, and to foster an environment of mutual trust. …show more content…
(In Filerman, In Mills, In Schyve, Shortell, & Acuff, 2014, p. 95) “The role of ethics in organizational leadership is to make, “normative judgement, individuals accrue not only moral responsibilities to their own character, intentions, and choices but also taking into account moral responsibilities.” (In Filerman, In Mills, In Schyve, Shortell, & Acuff, 2014, p. 10) With all these great expressions of what a leader is to me a leader is somebody you trust help guide you and has no problem working with you not just telling you what to do. A leader has to have a passion for what they do and believe the difference they make within the company. That is what I thrive to be a leader not just a boss in my future. Professionalism Professionalism is the “behavior characterized by traits that includes a high degree of generalized and systematic knowledge; placing community interest doer self-interest; self-controlled through codes of ethics and voluntary associations organized and operated by specialists in the same field; and a system of rewards that is primarily a set of symbols of work achievement rather than ends in themselves.” (In Filerman, In Mills, In Schyve, Shortell, & Acuff, 2014, p. …show more content…
97-98) Professionalism you understand more of the “organizational bussiness and personal ethics. Professional roles, responsibility, and accountability. Uphold and act upon ethical and professional standards. Adhere to ethical business principles.” (In Filerman, In Mills, In Schyve, Shortell, & Acuff, 2014, p. 79) To be professional is a role and a responsibility one must possess to be professional in my opinion. One shows professionalism by the way they dress, speak, and act. One can show professionalism by not showing being overwhelmed in troubled time and just working through the problem. Knowledge of Healthcare Environment Knowledge of the healthcare environment as an executive healthcare professional for the business is important for “corporate compliance laws and regulation.” (In Filerman, In Mills, In Schyve, Shortell, & Acuff, 2014, p. 79) There is a lot of guidelines and laws that must be followed closely in healthcare. Knowledge of healthcare will also help a healthcare professional take into account the “patient’s perspective (e.g., cultural differences and expectations),”
