While more black adult women are returning to higher institution to acquire qualification to seek better employment opportunities and others seeking for personal gain, there has not been active support for, and encouragement giving to young students as to this same group.
It is imperative to study how higher institution support system is being used in support of black adult women in their study. This is qualitative paradigm, as the students’ thoughts and feelings are being considered, so qualitative (non-numerical) data will be collected. It would not be possible to use the quantitative paradigm and collect numerical data for this.
4. Design of study
Purposeful sampling will be used for the recruitment of participants for this study. Purposeful sampling is commonly used in qualitative research. It involves selecting research participants according to the needs of the study (Glaser & Strauss, Morse, 1991) in that researchers choose participants who give a richness of information that is suitable for detailed research (Patton,1980).
5.Data collection
I will seek a voluntary sample of co-students, friends and friends of friends over 18 years of age, who are known to the researcher as current or post students of Newham University Centre. Coliazzi(1980) data analysis method will appear to be an appropriate methodology for this study because it focuses on finding the essence and meaning of the experiences of the participants in their chosen setup.
First, I will read all participants questionnaires and transcribe the data collected from the interviews to get a general sense of the whole and ideas presented. Next, significant statements and phrases pertaining to the phenomenon being study are extracted from each transcript. Meanings are then formulated from the significant statements. Then the meaning is organised into themes cluster and then to theme categories. Triangulation from different sources of data will be used to build a coherent justification for the theme. The description will be presented in the finding and expected outcomes
