There exist millions and millions of people in the world and with all the people there also exist an infinite number of opinions of what true happiness is. To a single mother happiness might be to find love, financial stability or perhaps a combination of the two. A college student could have a desire to never have to go to school ever again and just be rich while some might want to have money to afford college. Whatever type of background a person has will change their personality and how they will perceive their own version of the American dream. I, myself, would chose my American Dream to be a company that would make me money so that my family would have the stability I did not have growing up for years to come. They would be able to spend their life living it up with prostitutes and booze. Within everyone does exist the ability to Achieve the American dream. A person who is in the lower part of the financial spectrum might have more difficulties trying to achieve their dream then someone who has more money and connections. That does not mean that it is impossible to reach it though. I believe that all members of humanity deserve the American dream but obviously not all people will achieve it. The American dream can be reached in an infinite number of ways and all of them require determination. It even says in the Declaration of the independence “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” (thedeclaration). The dream to be happy is great but the word that people often overlook is the word pursuit. Many believe that their happiness is something that they deserve based on their existence. Children who have grown older but not up expect to have the American Dream handed to them on a pretty perfect platter. When life is not what they had expected they become angry with life. There are times when a person can move up the ladder unintentionally. This is called structural mobility. Usually when this happens it is due to a change in the structure of society rather than the work of the person itself. Structurally mobility usually happens in such a way that people who were on the low end of society rises and those on the high end go down(henslin237). Now that is not to say that it is so very obvious when it occurs. People who lived in a trailer park will not find themselves rich and living it up in the Hamptons later that week while the filthy rich live in some small ratty apartment within the same amount of time.
