The Importance Of A Social Worker Oppression

Social workers believe that everyone regardless of their place in society should have the basic human rights, which include freedom, safety, privacy, education, health care and a suitable standard of living. Every person, regardless of position in society, has the right to basic human rights. As a social worker it is important that we understand oppression and how it impacts society on a larger level, as well as a smaller level. It is important that in order to advocate for human rights and social and economic justice that we have an understanding of oppression and discrimination. With this competence, social worker must use social justice practices when working with clients, families, or larger scale populations.
