The Hymn To The Aten Analysis

The Hymn to the Aten is a poem written by pharaoh Amenhotep IV who, around 1346 BC in Egypt, created a monotheistic kingdom worshipping the god Aten, god of the sun disk. Amenhotep’s poem is one of praise for Aten as he claims that the god has created life for all and everything that exists on Earth, making him superior to all the other gods.

Therefore, the song “Adios Amor” gave me the tough realization that some relationships are best to let go of if they don’t work as a young adult, and will continue to guide me throughout my life.…

    – to YHWH” (Psalm 404 Great Hymn to the Aten, 2013) The worship of the Aten was anachronistic because it utilised advanced concepts and beliefs that didn't gain popularity until centuries after Akhenaten’s death, much less in a society that functioned off a polytheistic belief system for decades. As a direct result of Akhenaten’s rule, the Ancient Egyptian Empire declined from a magisterial superpower to two separate mediocre cities on either side of the Nile. As Akhenaten died and his successor was named, his ‘Utopian’ began to crumble.…

While no evidence exists demonstrating that Sinuhe from The Story of Sinuhe is an actual person and while The Tale of the Eloquent Peasant is clearly fiction, both works of Egyptian literature are rooted in some form of historical fact in that they were likely written by Egyptian elite and, therefore, they can give us important insights into Egyptian social life, how Egyptians viewed their society and the greater world, and how different classes in Egypt might have interacted. Namely, both pieces serve as obvious propaganda pieces for the Egyptian pharaoh –highlighting the relationship between the king and the lower tiers of society and setting up defined traits for how the pharaoh was supposed to be perceived in Egyptian society.
