Initially, I didn’t really know that much about the significance of this moon aside from it being called the Harvest Moon. After brushing up on the topic, it turned out to be kind of a big deal.. According to Nasa’s APOD page, “Total eclipses of supermoons are relatively rare -- the last supermoon lunar eclipse was in 1982, and the next will be in 2033.” (Nasa) What I took from that is, in a nutshell, the moon would be a combination of a supermoon, a total lunar eclipse, AND it would be red. The name blood red seems so cryptic; no wonder so many conspiracy theorists believed this moon signified something more. I remember learning about reasons to why the moon has a red glow during an eclipse, but never really read much more into it. Not surprising, there is a rather logical (and rational) reason to why the red color. The color is due to “the dispersed light from all the Earth’s sunrises and sunsets falls on the face of the moon at mid-eclipse.” (EarthSky) In other words, the moon is red because of what sunlight is showing through the Earth’s atmosphere, gives the moon a reddish
