An authoritative parent is someone who is responsive to their children’s needs and who also manages to set reasonable expectations and limitations (Shea, 2008). The parent is supportive of the child and has well interactions with them as well. These parents set up rules, and addresses the children’s behavior calmly and firmly. Children typically feel secure in the world and are able to learn and function independently (Shea, 2008). The second parenting style is authoritarian. The parent is typically controlling and discouraging of the child's autonomy, and limits the child's emotional expression (Bornstein, 2008). He or she expects complete obedience from the child. However, parenting styles and behaviors have effects on the infancy and toddler periods as well. As it is well known new born babies and children in the early developmental stage see their parents as role models. Parents seem to be responsible for the child’s initial adaption to the world. “Parents influence their infants directly by means of their genes, beliefs, styles, and behaviors as well as indirectly by means of their influences on one another and the multiple contexts in which they live” (Shea,
