Many PLO fighters were killed, and it lost most of its heavy equipment and ammunition stockpiles. Its headquarters was reestablished in faraway Tunisia, and its military units were dispersed in camps around the Middle East and North Africa, no longer posing a threat along or near Israel's borders. This was a 34-day conflict between Israeli and Hezbollah forces in Lebanon. Hezbollah is Shi’a Islamist militant group and political party. Even though this began July 12 the context of the dispute went back 24 years back during the 1982 Lebanon War (The First Lebanon War). Between 2000 to 2006 Hezbollah made attacks on northern Israel, which killed many civilians and military personnel. On July 12, 2006, Hezbollah made the attack on the town of northern Israel Shlomi “Hezbollah unleashed a carefully orchestrated, multipronged attack starting with a barrage of katyusha rocket and mortar shell fire aimed” This was a distraction that the Hezbollah used to infiltrate the border near the village of Zar’it. They attacked an IDF patrol. They used automatic fire weapons and rocket-propelled grenades. They injured three soldiers and wounded other three. The also abducted two soldiers. The IDF sent a tank to the borders but it exploded, and 4 soldiers died. A soldier who was part of the Israeli Defense Forces attempted to rescue the bodies of the soldiers in the tank but died in the process. This operation by the Hezbollah was named “True Promise”.
