Abortion is a topic that is fiercely debated in the United States. The ethics of abortions is questionable and many people dispute if it should be legal in the United States. With so many opinions and perspectives regarding abortion, it is imperative that information is gathered from reliable sources to give an accurate portrayal of what abortion is and how it affects people’s lives. The following examines a website called the Guttmacher institute, that supplies information and statistics about abortions, my previous knowledge on the subject, and thought-provoking facts on the topic of abortion.
One of the surprising things about abortion is how frequently it occurs. According to Finer and Zolna “Half of pregnancies among American women are

I knew there were health risks for woman undergoing abortions. The earlier a baby is aborted the less likely a woman is to suffer any physical damage; however, there are still significant risk factors to a woman who undergoes an abortion. Heavy bleeding can occur and sometimes a woman’s organs, such as the cervix or uterus, can be damaged to the point that a woman can no longer conceive a child. There is often heavy emotional baggage that comes with the decision to abort a baby. Many times women are harassed for their decisions or full of regret after the procedure is over. “We found that clinics in the Midwest were more likely to experience harassment than those located in the northeast and west” (Jerman and Jones, 2014: P 423). Most churches and religious organizations also do not support abortion and condone those who are willing to perform them. There are often times people who stand outside the clinics protesting and holding signs with pictures of babies who were previously aborted. An unintended pregnancy is an emotional process as is the decision to abort the baby. There are many things to consider and I don’t believe this decision should be taken …show more content…
This can be especially important when looking at a controversial issue such as abortion. The Guttmacher institute website has provided a wealth of accurate information to help research and understand the topics being studied. I was surprised during my study of abortion at the many statistics covering such a wide range of topics. I discovered facts about abortion and the different laws that surround it, as well as the different demographics of people receiving them. The different graphs and articles were also very helpful in order to get a full perspective of the issue. Instead of picking an opinion based on my feelings or emotions about the problem, I was able to research and find out facts about the topic. Abortion is never an easy decision and by researching and understanding the topic from both perspectives helps us make educated choices on how to address the

Abortion is increasing tremendously. There are 40-50 million abortions that occur per year, that means there are 125,000 unborn babies that die every day. In fact, Frank Pavone states that “If we took a moment of silence for each person lost to abortion we would be silent for over 100 years.”…

Although I as well found some very informational websites online which gave me a lot of great material to work with. Sources that I found were good for research were mostly websites that told me facts and statistics on my topic. The place where I found the best information would be on the New York Times website which told me all about the history of abortion and how everything originated. This information on the New York Times website was a great success because finding information on how abortion came to be was difficult since some websites that I came across weren’t very reliable and didn’t really give me the main points and details on the history of my topic. While, the New York Times, on the other hand had a great deal of useful research in a more condensed and easy to understand format.…

    Why Is Abortion Important

Those opposed to abortion claim that abortions should be illegal because of the possible abuse, physical and psychological danger it poses to females. They believe that if we continue to make abortions readily and easily available to all females, they will not use preventative care and instead just have uncontrollable amounts of abortions, they argue, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study showed that 19-25% of women who received abortions in 2006 had previously had one or more abortions. Those against abortion claim that it is a slippery slope, which would lead to excessive unhealthy abortions of many, but also the break down of the women’s psychological state. A 2002 peer-reviewed study published by the Southern Medical Journal of more than 173,000 American women, found that women who aborted were 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carried to term. They claim that obviously there has to be come kind of after effect that women are enduring because of these abortions.…

An ethical dilemma is a complex situation that challenges our moral values and beliefs. We are presented with choices/options each day, and our decision to pick one option over the other is usually based on our ethical stance, beliefs, and values. Once these decisions are made, there are consequences, which could be positively or negatively impactful. Abortion has been a very sensitive topic over the years and once again one of the topics that takes center stage during this election year. There are many sides to the argument.…

Pro-life advocates tend to think that if abortion were illegal, there would be not more abortions. They, however, are false. If abortion were to be illegal, there would still be many abortions performed; they would be unsafe procedures performed by non-physicians who may botch the procedure, by the pregnant mothers themselves or by “back-alley butchers” (“Misconceptions About Abortion”). Modern abortion procedures are safe and sanitary. Access to legalized, professionally performed abortions reduces the risk of injury or death.…
