The Pros And Cons Of Fracking

In the modern era, progression is constantly occurring through every aspect of life. People are focused on the current time rather than the future. The current effects people have on the environment with machinery and careless behavior is constantly destroying the ozone for the future. The controversial topic of greenhouse gas emissions is disputed about the hindering economic effects. Many believe the economic strain is not worth a greater debt. Those who believe precautions should not be made, only look at the economic side of the argument and ignore health warnings. Along with the economic strain, the health and safety of society is harmed by emission and little interest is taken into consideration. Although Dr. David Smith believes the …show more content…
“Atmospheric carbon dioxide levels… have increased 40% since preindustrial times” due to fossil fuel burning (Baehr & Harvey). Today refineries use multiple methods to extract fossil fuels sufficiently and economical compared to the past. Fracking is one of the most commonly used way of removing gas, first they “[drill] down into the earth, then use a high-pressure water mixture...directed at the rock to release the gas inside” (“What is fracking?”). The term fracking refers to the type of fracture the rock creates due to the high powered water spout. Fracking has numerous negative effects, it cause health problems along with environmental issues. Fracking causes radon “a naturally occurring radioactive gas formed by the decay of uranium in rock…moves through the ground and into the air,” and affects people 's health (Apple). Fracking also causes more hurricanes due to the water heating from the greenhouse …show more content…
Emission gases have caused defective ocean acidification, which “serves as a sink for this gas and absorbs about a quarter of human carbon dioxide emissions, which then goes on to react with seawater to form carbonic acid” (“What Are Greenhouse Gases?”). Along with ocean acidification, ozone pollution, unhealthy plant growth, ozone depletion also occur as a result of emission. According to Dr. Smith human actions have not caused an increase because “the sun 's intensity, earth orbital cycle and volcanoes all produce small changes in temperature that affect” the earth. Greenhouse gases have always existed and have little to due with industrial use. The overabundance of methane is a result of the unnecessary industrial industry. Overall, the core Earth temperature has risen in temperature due to large populated cities and natural effects from the evolving

The United states has one of the largest demand for energy in all forms. One common way to get the energy we need is through hydraulic fracking, but it has become more controversial as we know more about it. This paper will discuss what Hydraulic fracking is, what has been the recent controversy around it, and finally what effects the injection of wastewater has on the ground water and seismic geology of the region. Generally speaking, hydraulic fracking is the process of drilling a hole and pumping water mixed with various chemicals and sand to fracture the rock, releasing the oil and natural gas for it to be brought back up to the surface. After they drill the initial hole for the well, they inject a series of cocktails with various purposes to ready the well for full functionality.…

As of lately, a process called hydraulic fracturing (fracking) has been all over news channels across America and other countries. Hydraulic Fracturing is defined as a process by which fractures in the rocks below the Earth's surface are opened and widened by injecting sand and/or chemicals at high pressure to extract natural gas or oil ("What is Fracking?"). Fracking is used to extract shale gas, tight sand gas, tight sand oil, and coal seam gas (better known as methane). Hydraulic fracturing is a relatively older extraction process; however, it has been gaining controversy lately over the issues of water contamination, possible negative effects on the environment, and health hazards ("Danger of Fracking"). Despite many claims by critics,…

Hydraulic Fracturing: Safe or Not In today’s society, one of the most controversial issue is Hydraulic fracturing. The process of hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as “fracking”, is used in nine out of ten natural gas wells in the United States, where millions of gallons of water, sand, and chemicals are pumped underground to break apart the rock and release the gas.…

There is a lot of events that fracking could cause. Air pollution, earthquakes, water pollution. Methane is a main component of natural gas and is twenty five times more potent in trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. A recent study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration monitoring gas wells in Weld County, Colorado. Estimated that four percent of the methane produced by these wells is escaping into the atmosphere. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientists found the Weld County gas wells to be equal to the carbon emissions of one to three million cars.…

Is Fracking Worth the Risks? In a rural area of Colorado families demonstrate for local media and the film crew of the documentary Gasland how they are able to set fire to the water running out of their faucets. This unnerving phenomenon is just one of many side effects for people living in areas where hydraulic fracturing for natural gas is occurring. The effects of hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as fracking, may not only be detrimental to human health and safety, but also to the environment.…

Hydraulic fracturing has become a very popular issue in the United States. Hydraulic fracturing, referred to as fracking, is a process used by natural gas producers to fracture the shale rock below Earth’s surface to produce natural gas that was once thought unreachable. The boom of natural gas has brought jobs and it has also made almost dead communities flourish with people. Although it produces satisfactory results some people do not agree with the process. Fracking is a dirty process that involves the use of many volatile chemicals that would be harmful to the earth and humans if not dealt with properly.…

How Can We Know Fracking and Drilling are Safe? Fracking is injecting liquid, filled with chemicals and water, into the earth to reach oil or gas to then extract it. Fracking is controversial due to the fact that the earth, humans, and water supply is harmed in the process. Research has shown that fracking is not necessarily a safe process, but there are safer ways to complete the process.…

In the past several months, a somewhat concerning topic in the news has been reports of a large number of earthquakes in Oklahoma. In a region that normally has very little fault activity, this recent rise in seismic action has raised some eyebrows to an increasingly-common practice across our nation: hydraulic fracking. Currently, many people believe that the process of hydraulic fracturing (more commonly referred to as "fracking") is a major problem that needs to be stopped, causing hazards to health and the environment. Other people believe that fracking is the key to maintaining an edge in the oil industry and an economic boost, as well as providing an ample supply of fossil fuels from the deep deposits within our country. While both sides…

The companies can also use different engines that take natural gas. Engines that take natural gas rather then diesel are better for the environment and are less expensive (Kiger). They can cut prices by up to forty percent (Kiger).…

But Fracking is some people’s way of life so we can’t just take away their jobs because they have families to feed and to take care of. But on the other hand Destroying are environment and endangering the public isn’t right either just because we need natural gas. Everyone has a side and an opinion but before making your decision on what side you’re on you should always read about it and look up facts. In many people’s minds, the term “Fracking” only applies to the controversial extraction process and the environmental impact surrounding that process. Hydraulic Fracturing or “Fracking” for short is a process where chemicals and water are injected into wells to breakup rock formations that have gas or oil trapped in the rock itself. This process is specifically used for developing and extracting oil and natural gas from shale. While most people have heard the term “Fracking”, very few understand or even consider the down the road steps required to transfer, process and transport the fuel once it has been extracted or the implications and environmental or health impacts that follows in its wake. While fracking is currently banned in New York State and much of the New England area, those states still play a part in getting the fuel to export markets such as Canada or overseas.…
