The intent of Welfare was to help struggling families minimize the level of their basic needs. The Government began by offering financial assistance and food stamps for those who could not afford it. Individual states that had programs set up often failed to accommodate the volume of people in need. There were large scale levels of unemployment and poverty in many urban communities. Up to this point, the total amount of people on welfare is approximately 11 million people. The numbers are pretty much balanced between races, 39 percent is black and over 38 percent is white. The annual coast for food stamps is over 69 million annual. Food stamp budget was the highest. The annual coast for the Food Stamp program in Mississippi has the highest food stamp rate and Wyoming has the lowest food stamp rate. 10 million are collecting unemployment.
I can relate to people who is on welfare because my family is. Being on food stamps can help a lot but also hurt when you don’t get enough. My personal experience with being on welfare is good because it really does come when you need it and it does help. Other people may not think that. Those having a negative opinion of the Welfare System may be a part of that percentage of people guilty of abuse of the system. Some people get their food stamps cut because the government may speculate that they be sealing them for drugs or money. Reports indicate a wide abuse across the country with merchants allowing the spending of food stamps towards nonperishable items, such as tobacco. He states that 48 million people are collecting welfare and one of every six American receive Food stamps. With the way the number are rising is figures because the government is constantly encouraging people to sign up. The Congressional Budget Office was recently pointed to increase the amount of spending to these programs and the number of people are signing up for them.
Welfare spending really increased during the Bush Administration and during the Obama Administration, it has been extremely exploited. Figures show an increase of over 41 per cent for more than a reported $193 billion per year. This is an expense that the government will fall short on in the coming administration. Perhaps there may soon be some form of intervention for the masses that will encourage a more self-sufficient society. We must encourage learning in the youth that would prepare them for the roles they should take on as adults. This would eliminate one branch of the tree and stop this pattern of growth in the welfare
