There is an abundance of material to read. A person can spend their whole life running around in circles, contemplating on what they wish to read next.We only have so much time alone for ourselves. Reading is an activity that takes up time for the individual. In this time, the individual can grow in their own thoughts when they engage the text alone. There can be an array of distractions, ranging to friends, family, work and children. Therefore, it can be a daunting crucible in order to be a professional and gain the experience to get your skills of reading and writing. The education that a person can go through can either make them learn more critically or shut of avenues of creativity; it is the person’s choice in the end. An individual can come to a belief that there is only one proper way to write an essay, when there are various ways to complete this mind expanding task. In her essay, The Decay of Essay Writing, Virginia Woolf the criticizes contemporary essay writing in her time. She claimed the work that she had come across is bland, not original and has not expanded since the time of the first essay writer Montaigne. This essay challenges the readers views of the concept of essay writing, as well as engages them to explore new creative avenues to write the essay. Essay writing is an individual activity. It does not need to be fact. People need to separate themselves from the form of the classics and create new ways to engage themselves as writers. A writer does not need to follow the standards of literary critics to write a quality essay, “ You need to know nothing of music, art, or literature to have a certain interest in their productions, and the great burden of modern criticism is simply the expression of such individual likes and dislikes—the amiable garrulity in the form of essays,”( Wolfe.
