Throughout the short story the narrator tells readers how he ended up killing an elderly man or as he would put it, killing the old man’s “vulture eye”. While he is explaining how he went about killing the old man he is also trying with all his might to convince readers that he is not insane. Towards the end of the story the narrator talks about how the police ended up showing up at his house to ask him questions. While the police are at the house the narrator ends up panicking and revealing to the police where he hid the old man’s body. Based off of what I read in the novel one of the issues with how individuals with mental illnesses were treated in the past was they did not have access to the proper treatments that they needed. They instead underwent shock therapies and lobotomies. I personally think it was wrong of the to use these types of treatments on patients because most of the time they caused negative effects. After reading the novel I also discovered that patients were forced to take medications that they did not want to take in the past. I strongly believe that individuals should not have to put things into their body if they do not wish to do so. Based off of some of the events that occurred throughout One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest I believe that individuals with mental disorders were not being properly observed in the past because there was several instances of suicides. I believe that individuals should be watched so that there aren’t as many suicides occurring. The novel also mentioned that mentally ill patients in the past had their personal information leaked and that patients were even encouraged to snitch on other patients for rewards. I think patients personal information should not be shared with others. I also believe that patients should not be encouraged to snitch on other patients because that can
