This enticing short story reveals the escalation aspect of simplistic actions in this world going wrong and resulting to the vile side of humans and in this point, murder. Although it’s just a factor for the antagonist to reach his goal, the title foreshadows vital sections of this story. The Amontillado reveals to be the lure in which the antagonist (whom his name goes unmentioned) uses for his silent enemy Fortunato. The reason for this trickery is for him to excrete the rage he has towards Fortunato by ending his life. The love Fortunato has for wine was evident and is an easy trap, “Fortunato, like his countrymen, was a quack, but in the matter of old wines he was sincere”.
