It's no secret that, America's workforce is gradually becoming more and more diverse. Nearly every major company in America as well as many smaller businesses boasts workforces that include people of different races, genders, social classes, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. I can attest to this fact. I've been working in the restaurant industry for over 10 years and I have had the pleasure of working alongside people of different backgrounds, lifestyles, and cultures. With that said, I can also attest to the fact that “hidden cooperate culture” does exist and its effects are very disheartening. I, for one, have been negatively affected by and have witnessed it on a few occasions over the years. But what I have come to realize and what many companies both large and small are slowly starting to realize, is that having a diverse workforce is essential to a company's long term success for three really good reasons. Diversity can boost productivity, increase morale, and introduce a constant influx of different perspectives.
