What would you think if someone told you that you were round? Would you look at them weird then walk away? Would you say ‘thank you’? Or would you punch them in the face because you thought they just called you fat? Well, you should say thank you since they just confirmed that you are a real person. Round characters are like real people, with many different traits. This is an example of a symbol. Symbolism is an object or symbol used to represent another idea, trait, or quality. Both their lives have ended, and for Luis, it is literal. Erik, which the help of his cloud, form the lightning bolt, which strikes Luis the tangerine, causing problems for them both Erik, Luis, and all Erik’s supporters. The tangerine explodes as the lightning fades away, and is forgotten. The lightning rages end, and the tangerine is gone. Lightning and Tangerine are also two very important symbols in the story. Tangerine is the county where the story takes place, and Luis had a love for tangerines. He even invented a new breed of tangerine, which he called the Golden Dawn Tangerine. Tangerines are what brought Luis and Paul together, and it is a big part of the story. Lightning relates to the story because “Tangerine County is the lightning-strike capital of the United States” (57). Lightning was even the cause of the death of Mike Costello.
