and new types of artwork, but over the years with an ever growing artistic community in
the world, artists have struggled to truly set themselves apart from one another. The
artists that have truly set themselves apart from the rest are those that can take
something old and apply their own style to it; by creating a style that is unique to the
individual. Takenobu Igarashi created an outstanding and unique graphic style that was
his own by fusing both Western and Eastern idea (PB Works).

They felt that his style
would not be a good fit with what clients would want, and as a result, Igarashi opened
his own design firm in 1970. By 1976, Igarahi’s designs had begun to gain international
recognition and his firm grew to have many clients of his own (Meggs).
Igarashi began to teach design as well. He wanted to be actively involved with teaching
the younger generation about graphic design and art. He taught at Chiba University in
japan as well as at UCLA. He also collaborated in the foundation of the Faculty of
Design at Tama Art University where he originally graduated. This collaboration brought
about the first computerized design education in all of Japan, where he became the first
Head of Design Department (Igarashi).
In 1994, Igarashi decided to end his career in graphic design after 25 years. He moved
to Los Angeles and became a sculptor making alphabetic sculptures from marble, but
eventually rediscovering terracotta and wood, where he felt far more comfortable. In
2004, he returned to Japan where he has since made various sculptures and reliefs for
public spaces all over Japan
