Introduction
As a nurse, we have the opportunity to heal the heart, mind, soul and body of our patients, their families and ourselves. They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel. Essential qualities of a nurse can be determined through therapeutic nurse-client relationships, privacy and responsibility, which are reinforced by real-life experiences. (CNO, 2011).
I ask to one of my co-worker about her understanding of being a nurse-client relationship. She said that she recalled a similar case while she was working on a cardiac unit floor. She cares for a patient, and the family played a large role in her patient’s stay. She assessed the family as she assessed the patient also. She allowed the family to be present during her assessment. By allowing the family to participate in the patient’s care, she developed a therapeutic nurse-relationship with the client and the family as well.
My supervisor interviewed also. Her response to me was the following: I have built my relationship with my clients. My clients call me mother. My clients are capable of discussing any private issues with me”. She couldn’t say any further due to HIPPA
