Foundries are industries that produce castings by filling molds with molten alloys. It is therefore very important that these industries produce castings that are of very high quality that meet or exceed customers’ expectations on quality and reliability. According to www.Business Dictionary.com, in manufacturing quality is a measure of excellence or a state of being free from defects, deficiencies and variations from set standards. This implies that organizations should always strive for continuous improvement for them to remain being competitive.

The main objective of the case study
The main objective of the study is to re-position Quality Foundry so that the company could continue producing products and services that are of very high quality.

This analysis can be done by critically going through the mission statement for the company. The analysis show that the mission statement does not show a clear strategic direction in that it is more focused on the product and return on investment. A good mission statement should focus more on satisfying the needs of the customers and mention the needs that it wants to address in order to satisfy the customers. According to Daft (2005) the content of the mission statement should focus more on the market and customers and also should identify desired fields of endeavor. And also suggest a vision and guiding principles which will help the company achieve its goal.
The current mission statement requires some improvements so that it focuses more on satisfying its customers. It has tried though to address internal issues such as changing attitudes and incorporating a quality/ team environment in the company. ACCA (2009) says that”mission statements promote desired behavior.” The mission provides support for strategy and purpose and also adherence to core values. There is need therefore for the company to focus on satisfying the customers by involving every employee and focus also on continuous improvement of quality products and services.
