Applying as a Physical Therapy major to NYIT I know that I have a long road ahead of me. Not only will my education be rigorous but I will have to work harder than I ever have before and push myself through times when the going has gotten tough. Earning a doctorate in Physical Therapy is by no means an easy task. NYIT’s Physical Therapy program is top-rated and challenges its students with topics and issues from all areas of the spectrum. Not only does a Physical Therapist need to be knowledgeable in anatomy and physiology but also in biology, chemistry, physics, and nutrition. Rehabilitation other people to increase their quality of life is the goal of a Physical Therapist but they also need to be able to connect and care about their patients well being. At NYIT I will learn not only topics related to my area of study but I will take other classes that will help me become a more well-rounded individual so that I can connect to patients who may have a passion for technology or architecture. A Physical Therapist works directly with their patients so they need to talk to their patients. That not only requires interpersonal relationship skills and requires compassion towards other peoples trials and troubles. People want to talk about things that they are excited about such as an upcoming vacation or things that are worrying them such as their children misbehaving and as a person interacting with them I need to be able to not only connect with them but show empathy and compassion towards them and their personal issues.
