To,

One of my first experiences of being able to interact with patients on my own was during my junior residency at a private hospital in India. While I was excited about being able to use my knowledge, I soon realized that the scope of operations and demands made on medical professionals in India is unique. This is largely due to the fact that though we are one of the fastest growing economies in the world, we do not spend enough on educating people on simple health care basics. Whereas on one hand we have people suffering from malnutrition, there are a large number of cases suffering from obesity, diabetes and heart diseases. I have since realized that in order to truly make a difference, I will be required to assume a multiple role of a leader, researcher, planner, evaluator, and counselor. The task seemed overwhelming. I have since started looking at avenues to be able to fulfill these targets, one of the first things that come to mind is to get higher education that will equip me with skills and abilities to do what I hope to do. I looked at a number of programs and courses available in diverse fields such as public health, public administration and allied fields. Having understood the course offerings at some of the leading universities and educational institutes, I now wish to pursue Master’s Program in Public Health. I believe that only a concentrated coursework and inclusive research work in field of Public Health would put me on right track to achieve my goals. Along with completing my bachelor’s degree of M.B.,B.S. …show more content…
(Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) with first class grades, I have devoted better part of five and half years of academic life to accumulating knowledge and exposure through various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. I had subject named Community Medicine which had given me thorough understanding of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Health Education and Promotion, National Health Programs etc. During clerkship rotation in Department of Community Medicine (16 weeks), I did small epidemiological research studies; community based surveys and involved myself in various National Health Programs like “Pulse Polio Immunization”, “Save the Girl Child”. All these assignments and field works have given me opportunity to do population based research studies and to be familiar with health related problems and needs of different communities. One of my most rewarding team project was on “Study of the Healthcare Waste Proportion during my internship. This study was aimed at analyzing proportion of biomedical waste by different categories, by color code and per bed and assessing existed safety practices among health care personnel and waste workers. I realized that this project had multiple implications, not only in areas of sanitation and cleanliness, but also in environmental protection and saving our planet from toxins. My quantitative and analytical skills have been further strengthened by my work in Intra Domestic Survey, where, as a part of team, I did an active surveillance of malaria in urban areas. I now look forward to devote myself in being able to pursue such rewarding projects. I am sure; it will be possible at your institute because you provide superior research facilities and guidance of highly proficient faculties. After coming to United States in 2013 I have been involved as a volunteer, observer, Research assistant at various teaching hospitals and clinics. …show more content…
