It came to Michael as a shock when he found out Alex was moving.
“But what about the fort and the pirates and the wars…?” Michael asked his parents. “Will Alex still come to the park?”
“Alex is going to move somewhere on the other side of the world.” his parents explained. “You won’t get to see her as much anymore. Okay?”
“Okay…” echoes Michael trying hard not to cry and keep his voice steady. He failed miserably.
That afternoon Alex and Michael were on the swings. For the first time in years, they sat in an awkward silence. He was trying hard not to talk about Alex moving away, but hey, how much can a 7 year old hold in. “ARE YOU GONNA MOVE AWAY AND LEAVE ME FOREVER?” “Yes.” whispered Alex, and she sadly looked away. “PLEASE DON’T LEAVE.” he exclaimed. She wanted to leave her dresses but Tina had told her to keep some clothes for “formal occasions”. Tina had been Alex’s best friend ever since she had moved away. She now sat on Alex’s beanbag chair twirling a piece of auburn hair around her finger trying to make Alex’s fashion decisions for her. “Nope...No way… Are you crazy? I wouldn’t be seen dead in that.” She never approved of Alex’s fashion choices.
Tina was, in every way, the polar opposite of Alex. Alex didn’t care much for clothes and Tina thought shopping was the only reason to live. Alex thought speaking was overrated and Tina could talk for hours on end. Their unlikely friendship appalled everyone, but frankly, they didn’t care.

Alex had been accepted into Upton University and was supposed to leave next week. She was going to live on campus and therefore needed a decent amount of clothes. The whole ordeal would’ve been much easier if Tina had been coming with her there, but her brother was getting married and she was going to come next
