From China’s perspective, there is no doubt that they firmly believe that the territory is belongs to them, and it always has. However, counter to their view, the United States has supported China’s opponent in the land ownership debate by supporting the Philippians instead. Not only is the U.S. choosing to not support China, they are criticizing the basis of their arguments by stating that China does not have the historical, nor applicable context to justify their argument. The U.S. has taken into account that the “nine-dash line” may be illegitimate and not government official. Also, the United Nations Convention of Law of the Sea(UNCLOS) Ultimately, due to the fact that the United States is not in favor of China coming out on top in the debate, this puts a burden on their relationship as business partners, allies, etc. Commentary toward the issue has suggested the possibility of war in the upcoming decade. However, I do not believe that either country is going to actively pursue war unless it becomes a last resort option. I believe the U.S. and China will try to refrain from going to war because supporting the cause is too expensive, evidently dangerous and both leaders have legitimately expressed their aspirations to preserve and grow a healthy international
