REASON 1: Having a materialistic viewpoint means you believe everything in the world is physical, and that the conscious mind does not exist because the conscious mind is based solely on ideas. EXPAND: In the world today, every person consists of a physical body and a physical brain. This brain is not capable of thinking for itself but has been programmed to understand stimuli and respond in various different ways. Our body exists with a brain, but not a mind that thinks independently. EVIDENCE: When you think about your everyday experiences, there are certain ones that are performed in the same way every single time. This is because our brain has been trained to respond and carry out an action in the simplest way possible. For example, take the action of putting on your shoes. The world we live in today is materialistic, meaning we have physical bodies and physical brains that are used to carry out everyday functions. WHY IT IS CORRECT: We are capable of knowing that we live in a world with objects made of matter because of the types and ways we are able to interact with those objects. REASON 1: Because of the way our brains have been created, we are able to respond to stimuli without consciously thinking about our actions. REASON 2: Not only does our body carry out specific actions, but it uses the methods displayed in radical and logical behaviorism. COUNTER ARGUMENT: In this world, every individual is able to carry out the same function in different ways. As a result, idealists believe that the world is too unique to be based solely on physical experiences. It is these materialistic experiences, however, that allow for our brain and body to carry out physical functions. CONCLUDING SENTENCE: In conclusion, the Mind-Body Problem is a theory with many compelling arguments, and while our physical bodies are able to exist and perform actions, it is not the result of a conscious mind; it is the result of a programmed physical
