In today’s world, our lives are controlled by a vicious parasite. It latches on to many individuals and continues to pull them in without giving them a chance to breathe. This ruthless parasite is commonly known as social media. Teens are more focused on social media than their school work. Vishranti Raut and Prafulla Patil state, “The prime bad effect of social media is an addiction. Constantly checking Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn other social media updates. This addiction could negatively affect other valued activities like concentrating on studies…Students, who attempt to multi-task, checking social media sites while studying, show reduced academic performance. Their ability to concentrate on the task at hand is significantly reduced by the distractions that are brought about…”(IJRITCC, 284). Students are becoming more distracted by thinking about their social media accounts and wanting to check it. This has become a significant distraction for students. Their ability to concentrate on school work has been greatly reduced. This kind of addiction is familiarizing students with this negative impact and believe that it is okay and that nothing is wrong. According to the BBC, “two hours every day sharing, liking, tweeting and updating on these platforms, according to some reports. That breaks down to around half a million tweets and Snapchat photos shared every minute” (Jessica Brown). The vast majority of people spend way too much time on social media.
