Norms and Values are a major influence on socialization in today’s society. People today tend to follow what they have been thought or what they are used to since a very young age. The family is one of the most important influences of socialization. Parent’s values and how they act and behave in certain situations is a big influence on their children. Friends, peers and school society is another important influence of socialization. When we see how our parents or peers react to a certain situation we tend to learn from it and follow in the same way.

Values are the beliefs and ideas an individual or group of people share. Values are usually influenced by an individual’s family or friends. Values can help an individual distinguished and understand the difference between what is right and what is wrong. Values are a belief and can be illustrated through faith, religion or just an understanding of what is morally right and wrong. Being able to believe and achieving goals can also be an important value to an individual for example passing exams and getting into college or getting married and starting a family. These values are usually influenced through parents and family. By understanding what is the normal way to behave in certain situations it makes socialising easier. When you understand the normal way to communicate with someone such as tone of voice, body language and eye contact and the accepted behaviour it makes socialisation easier to understand. In most societies it would be the norm to offer your seat on the bus to someone who would benefit more from it such as an elderly person or a pregnant woman it just shows generosity. From a young age we watch our parents, family and friends do all these different things for different reasons but as we grow up we learn how it is ‘the norm’ to do such things. This is where our primary socialization is influenced and where our learning of socialization begins and then when we grow up to understand norms and values and start to mix socially with other people and groups, our secondary socialisation is enhanced. Believing in something and how you express it through everyday life is how our values are expressed socially.
Conclusion
In conclusion, norms and values are an important factor of socialisation. Without norms and values socialisation simply wouldn’t exist as people would not understand how to behave towards others and how to act. Norms and values are part of everyday life and how others interact with each other. Without norms the way in which we behave would cause a lot of conflict and problems within socialising. Values are important
