Social Inequality Research Paper

Occupation, education, income, and wealth all have a huge affect on social class. Occupation coincides with income and your educational level. Combining education and occupation can help decide upon someone’s social class. Wealth is defined through the assets that you contain; money, land, cars, etc. Income is the amount of money earned by working and investments. Having a higher education, a more sought after occupation, more wealth and more income would be what decides your social class. The economy has a big role in our identity as society members because it affects every variable that decides our social class. In this bourgeois society, capitalists also help to decide your socioeconomic status. They control the wages in which you have to live on. Social stratification is defined by a system of social inequality, this means that there’s always going to be someone above you and you will always be above someone else. Inequality is also depicted through the facets of race and gender, and how you’re placed into a social class. Racism and patriarchy still carry a stigma in all of the social classes. African Americans, along with other ethnicities, won’t receive as much opportunity compared to a caucasian. Essentially, social class is everywhere thought the world, theres always going to be a poverty line. There will always be a middle class and an upper class. As members of these societies that demonstrate these practices of social class, we should have class consciousness. We should also know that our status can be changed at any time because we don’t live in a caste system. We live off of life chances that provide us with opportunities to improve our overall quality of life. If we work hard enough and we’re smart enough with our finances, then we should be able to move up to a more comfortable
