Sleep deprivation for adults can be caused by a number of different elements. One cause of sleep deprivation can be due to the environment one lives in. If during the time sleeping should be occurring and it is noisy, it would be difficult to sleep. Also, one’s job is in direct relation to the amount of sleep someone gets. For example, a doctor that works night shifts will have a severely smaller amount of sleep than someone who works a typical day’s shift. Many adults are prone to drinking coffee during the day. The caffeine from the coffee will cause a person to be unable to fall asleep at night. If a person is a main caretaker for his or her children, then a lot of one’s time would be dedicated to the children. Sleep deprivation can come by many different causes. Adolescents need at least nine hours of sleep per night, and this rarely happens. Between their busy schedule and the social media buzz, sleep is not a top priority. This absence of sleep can increase the amount of stress a kid has, ontop of the stress already present from other sources. College students’ busy lifestyles reduce their hours of sleep as they gain hours to socialize instead. Poor grades from staying up late is what may come from the scarcity of sleep. Lastly, adult’s busy work lives leave them staying up late, and then also needing to provide time to care for their families. The effects of the shortcoming of sleep has negative repercussions. Teens, young adults, and adults to elders all can experience sleep deprivation if they do not take care of themselves properly or pay attention to sleep
