There are six different types of love that are seen in the modern day world and olden days; There is familial love, which is the love that one has for their family. Romantic love is the love someone possesses for their spouse. Unrequited love is a love that an individual feels for someone who doesn't feel that same way in return. Platonic love means the feeling that friends have for eachother. Spiritual love is the love that people have for the God that they serve, and last but not least self love is the love or acceptance that someone may have for the way they act or look. All these types of love are seen constantly in modern world and in the play Romeo and Juliet as well. For example; familial, unrequited, and romantic love is evidently …show more content…
It is shown between Juliet and the Nurse, and Romeo with Mercutio. As a case in point, the Nurse and Juliet's platonic relationship is strong. This is shown when Juliet is in distress she goes to the Nurse for help, rather than Romeo which is suppressing Romantic love, her family which is extinguishing Familial love, and/or praying about the situation which eclipses spiritual love. In the play Mercutio shows his friendship for Romeo by trying to cheer him up while saying “you are a lover, borrow Cupid's wings and soar them above common bound.”- act 1, scene 4, Romeo and Juliet. Romeos friendship for Mercutio was so strong that when Mercutio was killed by Tybalt, Romeo was filled with so much anger for the loss of his friend, that he felt the need to kill the killer; Tybalt. Even if this means that he was banished from that area and land. If he had loved Juliet as much as he did Mercutio he would have thought twice before he killed Tybalt, knowing that there would obviously be punishment for murder resulting in his death, or banishment restricting him to see or be with his “True love.” This is when the term “actions speaks louder than words” comes into

In this essay I will be exploring how Shakespeare illustrates the theme of love in Romeo and Juliet with particular reference to Act one scene five and Act two scene two. The play has multiple types of love shown throughout, however in this piece I will be focusing on Romantic love, more specifically, the love between Romeo and Juliet. I find this category of love to often be more vividly expressed in writing, with the use of additional poetic techniques. Act one begins with Romeo seeing Juliet for the first time. He, almost comedically, forgets about Rosaline entirely.…

We can apply STANDPOINT THEORY to this interaction between Noah and Allie. Allie finds herself in love with two very different people. Noah, who was her first love, and was the one that her family didn’t approve of because they felt that he was “trash” and not “suitable” for her. Lon, who is her current love and fiancé, and happens to be very wealthy and the type of man that her family finds suitable for her. Allie is in love with both men but doesn’t know what she is going to do or how she will pick between the man with the social status that she knows her family approves of and wants for her or picking the man that her family has already decided wasn’t good enough for her.…

Love’s power seems obscure yet humans dwell on this intangible feeling from day to day life. At the heart of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, is the idea that loves forces people to perform extreme actions. This is shown from Romeo and Juliet’s love for each other. Friar Lawrence's love is also expressed to Romeo through his radical actions. Both the Capulets and Montagues are constantly at each other’s throats while Romeo and Juliet go on a mischievous journey.…

Romeo knows nothing about Juliet but her appearance but can easily fall in love with her; this shows his exaggerated emotional state. Romeo, being illogical, also marries Juliet after knowing her for only a few hours - this shows how dramatically his emotions dictate how he makes his decisions. Later in the play, Romeo gets into a fight with Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt, after Tybalt, a Capulet, kills Mercutio, a friend of the Montagues. The fight started because Romeo attended a party at the Capulet house, where he met Juliet, but no one but Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence, the man who married them, knows about Romeo and Juliet’s elopement. Soon after Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo throws away all logic in the situation and professes, “Alive in triumph - and Mercutio slain!/ Away to heaven, respective lenity,/…

The two types of love that are found in “Romeo and Juliet” that are going to be used in this essay, are romantic love, and unrequited love. Romantic love is when two people love each other and are not related (as in a boyfriend and girlfriend), while unrequited love is when only one person has feelings for another but the other does not have feelings and sometimes does not know about the existence of the other person. Romantic love is defined as an intimacy between two lovers. The example of romantic love in “Romeo and Juliet” is the love between Romeo and Juliet. In the play Romeo gives the metaphor “He flew over the wall on the wings of cupid”.…

“Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don’t know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals” (Anais Nin). Young love, a concept as common nowadays as it was centuries ago, however that does not make the idea unerring, for each love that was built upon blind lust, and immaturity is inevitable to eradicate its own self as shown by the couple of Romeo and Juliet. William Shakespeare, the author of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, utilizes the suicidal thoughts of Romeo and Juliet to illustrate that young love has a self-destructive proclivity because the couple is too young to decipher the meaning of love, are reckless and immature, and are dependent on others to solve their problems.…

People often have desires of wanting and needing something, but sometimes it can be difficult to do so because people prevent them from doing so. Society may think that they know what is best for you or judge you. It is better to follow your heart rather than society’s desires. Romeo wants his life put together and is very serious, especially about love. He is also over dramatic. While Romeo has just broken the Prince’s demand of no fighting, he then goes to meet Friar Laurence at his cell to find out his punishment. Once Friar Laurence has told Romeo the his punishment for killing Tybalt is banishment Romeo replies with “For exile hath more terror in his look, much more than deah”(III.iii.13-14).…

Infatuation and love are two vastly different types of affection that most people get confused between. It is likely to occur more so among a boy and a girl when they are young and inexperienced as opposed to when they’re grown and matured. Infatuation can easily be mistaken for love in many cases. In Romeo and Juliet infatuation is mistaken for love by the both of them, for what they had between them was not love due to the fact that they were not mature enough, love takes time to develop, and because it was based on physical attraction. Love deals with more than just looks.…

Love is the superseding subject of the play, however a reader ought to never forget that Shakespeare is uninterested in depicting a prettied-up, dainty adaptation of the feeling, the kind that awful artists expound on, and whose awful verse Romeo peruses while pining for Rosaline. Love in Romeo and Juliet is a ruthless, effective feeling that catches people and slings them against their world, and, now and again, against…
