The official diagnostic information includes that the symptoms feel excessive or unreasonable, can cause great distress, and cam interfere with daily functions. It’s safe to say that Pat’s father’s betting and focus on the direction of the remotes is excessive and unreasonable, causes him great distress, and his betting almost got in the way of his daily/future business of a restaurant which he almost bet away. OCD diagnosis also includes the presence of obsessions, compulsions or both. Strong claims could be made that both are present within Pat’s father although it is much easier to pick out his compulsions, his obsession with betting on and watching every Eagles game could make a strong case for the obsessions. The duration of the symptoms seems unknown however Pat was unaware of some of the things that his father was obsessed with and needed to do. His level of functioning is relatively normal however his normal functioning life financially was threatened by his rash gambling decisions. Day to day functions were generally the same and from what the viewer could tell, he was able to do everything that he wanted and needed to do on a daily basis. One red flag was the fact that he recently lost his job and moves to printing books until he opens his restaurant. This might have been an indication of these interruptions of daily functioning found in the diagnostic symptoms though not
