Abstract
This paper discloses moral and ethical questions of how should we behave, the analysis of specific situation using as a basis the story which had happened to a nurse of cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Stella and her patient, Sally, who was diagnosed an incurable brain tumour and got a DNR order placed on her chart. The way Stella had decided Sally’s fate causes disputes questioning whether her act should be considered to be virtuous or not. The Kantian theory - deontology - reveals us the background of people’s behaviour in professional incidents and provides us with the possibility to examine the problem from a certain point of view.
Keywords: cardiopulmonary resuscitation, intensive care unit, do not resuscitate.
