Shorter School Day

Improved Essays
Wouldn’t it be cool to have a shorter school day? Imagine only going to school for 5 hours. Currently, at Cornerstone Christian Academy, I need to get to school by 8:10 AM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. On Wednesday, I don’t need to get to school until 9:00 AM. Getting home at 3 is good but I usually get home by 5 because of sports. If the school day was shorter I would have a lot more time in my afternoon. Cornerstone should change the school day to 5 hours. First of all, a shorter school day is better because students would have more time for important things. They would have more time for homework, which would create less stress and could get better grades. Stress can eventually lead to sickness and serious diseases like cancer.

It may sound ludicrous but Psychologist Kelly McGonigal had supported the idea that stress was dangerous, but now it’s she reveals that stress can only hurt you if you allow it to. An eight year study wrote, “182,000 Americans died prematurely, not from stress, but the belief that stress is bad for you;” the phenomenal part is that the people who also experienced a lot of stress but didn’t view it as harmful “were no more likely to die” in fact, they had “the lowest risk of dying of anyone in the study.” This is remarkable. The way a person views a situation can change the way that that it affects them. McGonigal also says that in turn, those who looked at stress as a positive response viewed it as a “sign that [the] body was energized, preparing [them] to meet this challenge” and it changed the body’s response to stress!…
