It can introduce new ideas, values and relationship skills to communities who only promote healthy, nonviolent relationships and are against domestic violence. Populations with high-risk of domestic violence should be the targeted audience. In contrast to Primary prevention, Secondary prevention efforts in domestic violence address individuals who have shown particular signs of domestic violence and can be checked up on as a follow-up by using home visits. Using awareness activities is a simple but effective way to help raise awareness among the community during town meetings. This will provide training to individuals by being aware of harmful factors, helping them develop strategies to better manage dangerous situations, and increasing the community’s level of resistance to situations that could give rise to domestic violence. Along with Primary and Secondary prevention strategies, Tertiary prevention efforts emphasize the identification of every element and factor involved with the domestic violence. This includes knowing the perpetrators and the victims, the support the victim gets and the punishment/treatment for the perpetrator. Intervention gaps that may exist in the interventions that my resource provides include “lack of understanding or sensitivity to the issue of domestic violence…insufficient laws tackling domestic violence…and inadequate support for counseling” (Afsana, Rashid & Thurston). To address these gaps, I would first address the issue of not being aware of the issue at hand and dedicate time and resources on educating the community about domestic violence. The second issue that needs to be addressed is the fact that the community is handling domestic violence issues more so than our government. There should be better laws handling domestic violence cases and should be addressed by government officials. The last issue to address would be inadequate support for counseling. I would raise awareness about the benefits of going to counseling and how serious it can be for victims to not seek help after their
