Vending machines in schools are a controversial topic. The problem is not with the vending machine itself, but rather the way the vending machine is being used. Some changes the U.S. will have to make in order to have these vending machines available to everyone are to make the cost low. Students don’t have a lot of money and even though some may be underprivileged, every child has access to the same snacks to buy in the machine at an affordable price. Vending machines can replace forgotten lunches.…
One student says “Usually we go to the student store and I'll buy a bag of Cheetos...or like chips, sometimes a Gatorade, yeah" when asked what they will do when the school lunch doesn’t fill them up enough. This is a problem that is hard to deal with, because having bags of snacks that students can munch on sort of goes back on the whole idea of “healthy lunches” and has the student spending money on top of their bought lunch just to get filled up for the rest of the day. Giving students a healthy option is ideal, but having them eat something that tastes bad and won’t even fill them up doesn’t seem right. A high school student wrote a newspaper article about how the candy vending machines were taken away. His points of evidence were that the candy gives them energy to complete the school day, the administration is taking one of there most basic freedoms away, and they don't need to be eating that nutritional because they are teenagers (Candy, Our Candy 2). In my opinion, those points of evidence are invalid and the principal at there school agreed with me. He stated that the candy was unnutritional, it wasn't neccesarilly a freedom, and it gave them a sugar rush which left them mentally exhausted by the end of the day (Principal 1). In this quarrel it is clear to me that the principal has better reasoning because the student has terrible reasoning,…

" They are shifting to very low-quality food -- essentially junk food," says Popkin. The study showed that children are consuming less fruit and milk and more salty snacks such as potato chips, as well as more candy, juice and soft drinks.…
