Argumentative Essay Many people around the world believe that a higher power controls one’s life. This idea is often shown through art, specifically plays. In William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows that the characters tragic ending is predetermined by fate.
In the prologue of the play the audience is told “a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life” and goes on to describe their love as “Death marked.” This foreshadows the later tragic events to come and that their love was both destoned to occur and end in tragedy. This begins to become evident when Romeo and Benvolio run into Peter in act ___ scene _________. Fate is evident in this scene because without the occurrence of this encounter Romeo would have been unable to read the names on the list, meaning that he would have never been aware that Roseline, the woman he was in love with at the time, would be in attendance at the Capulet’s feast, and that he would have never met Juliet.
