The UIC Library is one Library collection in four cities, and includes the Richard J. Daley Library and four sites of the Library of the Health Sciences. All Library resources are available to all UIC users from every UIC Library location. Licensed electronic resources are also available remotely for UIC users with authorized NetIDs.

Duplicate copies, damaged items, and material not relevant to UIC programs are withdrawn from the collection. With any withdrawn item that is in good condition, steps are taken to ensure there is still a copy in the state. At the Daley Library, most items not used for more than twenty years are sent to remote storage but still available to patrons. The Library of the Health Sciences stores all older print monographs at its Chicago location. E-books are a desirable format because they are not lost or stolen, do not wear out, and require no physical storage. The advent of electronic publishing has afforded opportunities to change traditional models of scholarship and to make materials open to the public, or open access. The UIC Library is facilitating changes in scholarly communication through an institutional repository (INIDIGO), an open access publishing fund, and an open access journal publishing platform.
