The thirteen colonies know that they belong to Great Britain. They weren't really trying to make such a dispute out of the whole situation. "We all think ourselves happy under Great Britain". As far as Great Britain's perspective they believe that they should have total control over the thirteen colonies. They believe they have a right to "impose taxes on her American colonies".
