Almost every person in Canada has had an interaction with a Registered Nurse, whether it had been the hospital setting because they have fallen ill, or routine vaccinations when you are a child in school setting. The role and scope of a Registered Nurse changes depending on what facility he/she is working in. Public health nurses do a verity of work in the school setting this work is guided by the community health practice standards and the comprehensive school health report. Community health practice standards out line a holistic approach, to advocate for the physical, mental, social and spiritual well being of clients (Canadian community health nursing 2011). A great way to bring together the school community and get them excited about living a healthily life style is to host a health fair. A health fair could advertise the schools healthy breakfast program, and have multiple booths set up about mental health awareness. Another way for RN’s to be more involved is to have community-teaching classes about vaccinations, the importance of physical activity, and how to incorporate healthy meals into buying food on a budget. Registered community nurses everywhere in Canada are much needed and much appreciated. Each nurse though provincial jurisdiction has a bit different of a scope of practice and that dictates how much the children actually directly work with the nurse.
