Greg Walton 's colloquium talk is really good, if it was towards socially awkward people but individuals who are always upbeat and in a sense are superior when it comes to being social, superior meaning friends, work, friendly, talkative. I for one am not superior in social settings but I am good enough to the point where I can make friends and I do have a job where I feel needed and useful. I am not having troubles fitting in so even though the talk is helpful with living a successful life in my opinion I do not really need it. I do not have any negative thinking when I walk around just like how Prof. Greg Walton talks about. Just because I keep certain things to myself does not mean I am not social my choice to speak or keep quiet to my friends is my choice, not some mental blockage that is created inside my head in an attempt to isolate myself due to insecurities that arise from school, work, or home. Not too little not to much enough to get me slightly interested with what the professor was going to say. I am not saying that the whole lecture was exhilarating but it was not boring either, with his ideas of societal views and societal necessity. These concepts are pretty relevant to someone like me. I say this because I am a very social person, I do not party everyday but I know how to make new friends and be normal in societal standards. Being able to follow easy steps that were drilled into us as young children is all psychological conditioning. From a very young age we are told how to act and how to be “normal”. We are punished for things that are seen as wrong and rewarded when doing things are right. In our society being one that loves media and connectivity we strive to get everyone’s voice heard. Be it from social media, telecommunication, or social interactions we as a species loves to talk but if someone diverges from the path they are labeled wrong, freaks, shut ins, mental. No matter what you do social media will be a large part of your life and will be there till the fall of
