Injuries resulting from collisions with vehicles, powerlines, bullets, and pesticide exposure are all among the top reasons for admissions. Educating the public about ways to reduce the number of injuries to raptors each year and to improve recognition and response time for injured birds. Looking at the local picture it becomes apparent how much can be done in addition to volunteering and supporting organizations who focus on these birds and spreading knowledge. Individuals can personally work to avoid the use of pesticides, the proper disposal of other poisonous substances such as car fluids. Physical risks such as glue traps, trash that can be consumed or birds can get tangled in and marking or treatment of fences and windows to make them more visible can also be addressed. Well informed individuals should also attempt to impress the importance of such measures upon individuals they encounter. On a larger, governmental and global scale support for and push to create stronger regulations on pesticide use and chemical waste disposal with animals in mind need to continue to be instituted. Such as the federal ban on DDT, the pesticide responsible for the decline of the Peregrine falcons on the banks of the Mississippi River (River 1276). Efforts to incite action through education in Kenya failed to protect the vultures so regulations on poison should be increased in addition to the continuing education efforts (Kendell). Preservation of habitats, strongly enforced laws protecting important species and control of invasive species are other measures that need to be taken not only for the good of the raptors but for every species on the plant, a healthy ecosystem is beneficial for

SAN DIEGO >> U.S. researchers are launching studies on Mexico’s red-crowned parrot — a species that has been adapting so well to living in cities in California and Texas after escaping from the pet trade that the population may now rival that in its native country. The research comes amid debate over whether some of the birds flew across the border into Texas and should be listed under the Endangered Species Act. Parrots in U.S. urban areas are just starting to draw attention from scientists because of their intelligence, resourcefulness and ability to adapt. There is also a growing realization that the city dwellers may offer a population that could help save certain species from extinction.…

Many species in the world are endangered and eventually becoming extinct. The main problem that generates extinction is human activity; people cause extinction every day and unknowingly to them, it is killing innocent animals. Due to pollution, natural forces, human interaction, and loss of habitats, animal extinction is a major crisis in the world; people are the only ones that can save the animal population before it is too late. Pollution is among the most insidious threats to animal extinction. It can be as obvious as sewage and oil spills in water or as invisible as chemicals used every day.…
