Although I did have some lessons that were not that successful I found this to be my most successfully applied plan and activity. I credit this to my choice of using direct instruction as I felt it was appropriate and worked effectively with the class I was teaching. Research has found that direct instruction has the ability to, increase motivation, is an appropriate method for knowledge attainment and assisted in closing the knowledge gap between students (Glogger-Frey, et al. 2015 p. 83). When applying this lesson, I saw most these aspects reflected, especially the motivation of the class. When students were asked to begin creating their own small businesses it was evident that students wanted to complete the activity at a good level. This level of student engagement was crucial to the success of the class as it is often a great indicator of a successful lesson (Carini, Kuh, & Klein, 2006 p. Abstract). Additionally, other features that lead to a successful class was my use of classroom proximity. Early on my placement I realised the key of using classroom proximity for classroom management, in this particular lesson it lead to better behaviour and engagement from the students. Through the already in place seating plan, which saw the easily distracted students at the front of the classroom and continued walking through the class; I was able to defuse an issue before it started (Kramer, & Kovarik, 2013 p. 200). Although, there were many positive aspects of the lesson, the pacing of the lesson resulted in me rushing through the class. This is something that I have addressed now addressed in my lesson plan and is now highlighted in red. As the activity was going to stretch over multiple lessons, I should have slowed my pace down and allowed a proper conclusion before the end of class. This aspect of my lesson plan is what reflected on the application the most, as it saw me rush through early
