Administrators discovered that there is not enough time for year-round schooling. Faculty and staff have found that they have no time for their personal lives. Year-round school puts a lot more stress on faculty “they must choose between their family and their job” (Wildman 469). Another problem is scheduling school events. “Every school event must be scheduled more than once in order to accommodate those not present” (Wildman 466). Administrators also concerned about scheduling classes. “Administrators worry about conflict in scheduling” (Opheim). Another concern is the burnout of teachers and administrators. “Now, her highest concern is with the year-round program is with administrator burnout” (Wildman 465). Without the break of summer, teachers only get weekends and holidays off with no breaks. “Goldman called the experience ‘a merry-go-round’ with no starting or ending” (Wildman 466). Evaluations show that there was fatigue and burnout in staff (Dessoff 40). Teachers need the time off to reassess and plan for what they have to do in the future. “Many fine teachers are already leaving the profession because of burnout, and more months in the classroom would exacerbate the problem” (Finn 40). Students behavior, attendance, and grades have improved since switching to year-round school (Desoff 40). Students who go to school year-round showed better attitudes towards school. Students participating in school year round showed positive accomplishments (Opheim). Going to school year-round also gives students a chance to show advancements. A study was released that year-round schooling shows improvement in minority groups (Will). Another benefit of year-round school is it improves academic scores among students. Year-round school increases math scores, according to a study by Barbara Jay Ramos of Simpson College (Will). Studies have proven that year-round school improves academics,. Year-round schools did better according to s 17 out of 20 comparison (Wildman 468). Year-round school also increase test scores in students. Year-round school test scores have improved according to studies (Opheim). Studies show that standardized test scores went up in year-round schools (Opheim). Schools who have attempted going to school all year noticed advancements. Year-round schooling was attempted at Houston in 1983 and resulted in improvement (Finn). Having an excessive amount of time off of school in the summer causes students to lose knowledge. It was realized that academic skills dropped less after a shorter summer break (DeNisco 18).
