I enjoy being able to have a positive effect on some else’s life. I try to keep in mind that each patient is an individual, with his or her own needs and wants. I practice by treating each person with respect, acceptance, and love. I accept, acknowledge, and support patients, families, and coworkers cultures and beliefs, while maintaining the mandate of caring for patients. Philosophy is defined as the “values and beliefs regarding nature of work derived from a mission and the rights/responsibilities of people involved” (Yoder-Wise, 2015, p. 386). Nursing theorists have developed declarations of beliefs regarding nursing and the values that are used as the foundation for nursing thoughts and actions. I particularly like the nursing theories that consider holistic care, such as Jean Watson and Madeleine Leininger.
