The memoir “Night”, written by Elie Wiesel, is a story about Wiesel and his tribulation during the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel was a young Jewish boy who was sent to a concentration camp where Wiesel and the others around Wiesel endured great suffering. At Wiesel’s first camp he was separated from his mother and sister and left with Wiesel’s father. Elie and his father began to grow closer as they were together for most of the Holocaust. One day Wiesel’s father became very ill and as a result, this led to his father's death. After his father died Wiesel was left on his own fighting to stay alive. This eventually led to the day of liberation, the day of the Jews freedom. Through this all Hitler had a great extent of power that Wiesel had abused. He took away the lives of many and left a lot of people with nothing.
Power can change people in many ways, in this case, it can cause people to make appalling choices. Power can also change the way one might think for example Hitler found Jews disgusting and unbearable which is why he killed a substantial amount of them. He gives examples on how power can change people's morals. The power that the German soldiers had changed the morals of the prisoners. The prisoners went from trying to help each other to only focusing on self-preservation. Their views and ideas of what morals really are changed because there were no morals in the concentration camps. They lost all their morals for defending the helpless and giving to the ones that need it more. They took only for themselves. They would steal from others to make sure that they had what they needed to survive giving no thought to the lives of others. These are only a few reasons that power can change human
