Another possible theme is survival. Vivian went from house to house having different situations happen to her and had to survive through all of them. In the Brynes house she had to deal with Mr. Brynes trying to molest her, but then she gets kicked out and runs to her teacher’s for help. Ms. Lawson could only keep her for a few weeks. So she gets picked up by child services and sent to a new home. Every home she had was a little better than the one before but still wasn’t perfect.
