Positives And Cons Of 21 Day Fix

Improved Essays
21 Day Fix is a 21 day, three-week diet and exercise program. This program was created by Autumn Calabrese. She is a celebrity fitness trainer with personal training certificates from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the American Fitness Professionals & Associates (AFPA). The 21 Day Fix program originated because Autumn noticed that even though her celebrity clients were working out and eating healthy, their portions were still too big. Beachbody, LLC. is the company that made 21 Day Fix mainstream. This diet and exercise program uses color coded containers for portion control eating and seven workouts on DVD. The containers are colored for each food group: One purple container for fruit, one green container for vegetables, one yellow container for carbohydrates, one blue container for healthy fats, two orange containers for seeds & dressings, and a Shakeology cup for mixing drinks. Shakeology is a meal replacement shake, and can be used in place of one of the six meals you are to have daily. You can do the program without Shakeology, but is does recommend for optimal results, to drink the shakes. The number of allowable calories will determine how many of each container you are permitted per day. To figure the caloric intake allowed, use the following formula: Your current weight (LBS.) x 11 = baseline. Next, take your baseline and add 400 (fix calorie burn). This gives you your caloric need. Take your caloric need and subtract 750 (calorie deficit). These results now tell you what your target calories are. For example, we will say the allowable calories are 1200. With this, the provided booklet tells us the following containers are allowed daily: Two purple containers for fruit, three green containers for vegetables, two yellow containers for carbohydrates, one blue container for healthy fats, one orange container for seeds & dressing, and two oils. An approved food list is provided with the program, and shows what foods are allowed under each food group. If the approved food fits in the container, and you are within your allowable container count for the day, you can eat it. The optimal eating schedule is 6 small meals per day and plenty of water. You are also allowed unsweetened tea and coffee. Treats are allowed in moderation, and they must fit into your daily container count. 21 Day Fix is a program for clean, …show more content…
Positives being you do not have to weigh your food or count your calories. You are allowed 6 smalls meals per day and you can still eat treats in moderation. This program isn’t meant to stop after 21 days. If used correctly, it can teach you healthy portion control eating and exercise. The program is not too expensive compared to other diet and exercise programs. The cost after tax is $72.80. Negatives being you have no rest days when it comes to exercising. Also, there is no allowance for cheat days. For some, the approved food list could become very limited depending on the palate. This diet works very well with meal planning, but that can become extremely time consuming. 21 Day Fix is meant for clean, healthy eating and unfortunately, this can become very expensive. Lastly, how does this program fit into a social life outside of your own

Unknowingly to the population of fad dieters, these programs often lack the balance of nutritional substances and can be harmful to their health. Marketers promote trending diet plans as scientifically charged nutrition requirements which require lifestyle changes and may or may not encourage increased exercise (Fairburn & Brownell, 2005). Typically, plans supporting a severe reduction in calorie consumption result in decreased energy levels. Extreme weight loss companies may also suggest dangerously low caloric intake trials during the preface (2005). Undoubtedly, an individual who follows such restrictive diets along with an exercise program will lose weight quickly.…
