Pharmaceutical Careers As a biology student there are endless opportunities and career paths one can take. Having many choices is a good thing as it will be easier to find a job. Having many choices is stressful; it’s hard making the right choice. I however have narrowed it down to getting a pharmaceutical degree, but there are still many career paths I can take. There are many different career paths one can follow with a pharmaceutical degree some being clinical, medical and in retail (Santiago).
The first and the most common career paths most pharmacists take are in retail. As retail pharmacist are also known as community pharmacists. Community pharmacists typically work in drug …show more content…
“Clinical pharmacists work directly with physicians, and other health professionals, and patients to ensure that the medications prescribed for patients contribute to the best possible health outcome” (ACCP). Clinical pharmacists typically work in a hospitals, outpatient clinic and nursing homes (ACCP). Nuclear Pharmacy is similar to Clinical pharmacy, as they do not have much patient interaction. Nuclear pharmacy careers are mostly in hospitals and imaging facilities. “Nuclear pharmacists are responsible for measuring and delivering the radioactive materials which are used in digital imaging (MRI, CT, etc) and other procedures in medical offices and hospitals” (Santiago). Nuclear pharmacist usually start there day pretty early, as radioactive material has to be delivered just a few hours before use (Santiago).
Long-term care pharmacists also known as consulting pharmacist’s work at nursing homes, adult daycares, correctional facilities and even patient’s homes (Guide). Consulting pharmacists provide care for elderly and patients who need medical care (Santiago). “Pharmacists who work in long-term care homes are sometimes referred to as "closed door pharmacists", meaning they do not interact with patients directly at all”(Santiago). These pharmacists just provide the medicine and send a nurse to the patient with it (Santiago)
