It is created from petroleum hydrocarbons through an acidic reaction. This plastic is harmful for the environment as is can release chemicals into the earth if it is heated up or melted. These types of water bottles can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade, by that time we will have more landfills made up of these water bottles than actual land. Since 80% of water bottles are not recycled, they end up in our landfills where they sit and take up space. Sometimes they aren't even compacted so they take up even more space causing more harm to the environment. This plastic also can end up in the ocean along with other harmful materials that can damage aquatic life and water supply. Since they are not biodegradable, this is a problem that just keeps getting worse and worse every day, a solution needs to be found for biodegradable water bottles in order to prevent this.
Our team has found through researching the problem that there are solutions available. However, these solutions are either not efficient enough to make the impact needed, or are not available worldwide. Taking these current solutions into account, our team came up with some new product designs using different technologies that exist, in order to improve these solutions to make them have a positive impact on the
