Being gay has many underlying consequences. Gay is only a part of the community known as LGBTQIA, which stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual. The topic of gay is only a section under the rainbow, and all of the parts of the acronym have their own different stereotypes and discriminations. But the meaning for gay is just a man that is sexually attracted to only other men. In some ways being homosexual has gained acceptance, but still some people despise what being gay is, and it is clearly shown through how the world treats us. Discriminatory acts have been done against gays for centuries. There were scriptures in history showing that gays have been part of society, even in the times of Ancient Rome, so it is easy to confess that gays have been around at least since then. Homosexuality has always been frowned upon and do to this, inhuman acts have been done against them. One of these acts was to burn gays alive with a bundle of sticks called a” faggot”. People took their religions and ideologies to heart and acted on it, and due to the Bible saying that two men cannot lay together, the bundle of sticks notably called a faggot was used. Centuries later homosexuals were again discriminated against by placing them in concentration camps. This occurred during the Holocaust. Individuals who dislike gays have the tendencies to verbally assault homosexuals and feel the need to make it clear that they do not agree with what you are. Walking around as a gay person is limiting. It will either make people not want to be around or interact with the gay individual. Or it will make people want to be their friend because they want to feel like they are a good person for accepting them because homosexuals are discriminated against. Simply being gay and it just being normal doesn’t occur too often. Instead of just liking or hating homosexuals for their personality and traits, they are just completely hated based off of one part of who they are. People will see them as gay before they recognize them as a person. So if they don’t like gays, they will immediately dislike and have negative dispositions for them even if they didn’t do anything wrong towards them. Harassment is a real obstacle that gays face, there was once a time that my sister and I, who I note is a lesbian, were walking in the city after the 2015 Pride Parade. We were enjoying the cityscape and the countries legalization of gay marriage, while wearing rainbow accessories from the event when suddenly a man that I never knew came up to us.
